I enjoyed working with Sue. She was my manager for a while, while I was contracting, and then my co-worker when I went full-time. We took on some challenging stuff: exploring what it would take to run the Kinect algorithms on off-the-shelf processors, as well as designing a Tensilica based accelerator for this as well. Later, we’d work together on what would become project Zipline, which was super challenging. Solving the technical challenges together was a highlight for me, and hopefully the patent application we share (along with Ravi) will actually go through. We would go out for Indian food whenever she was up from Mountain View and chat about what was going on in our worlds. It was during one of these lunches when she told me about her diagnosis. I was deeply dismayed – how could such a thing happen? On subsequent meetings, she’d share the progress of her treatment, detailing her efforts to get into various cutting edge research trials and their effects. I was always amazed at her tenacity and resourcefulness, even while working full time and undergoing treatment. I will miss Sue. She was one of the good ones, and the world is a smaller place without her.
